GMC Jimmy Wheel Cylinder

The Wheel Cylinder used in GMC Jimmy cars is an essential component that is responsible for applying pressure on the brake shoes to enable shaping unto the brake drum: used to slow down or stop the car. It is possible to achieve this goal using pistons, cup seals, and an expander spring enclosed in a cylinder body of this hydraulic system. The pistons move outward when brake pressure is applied to push the shoes against the drum and at the same time, the spring exerts constant pressure on the seals in order to prevent leakage of the fluid. Eventually, moisture in the brake fluid can cause corrosion on the cylinder, hence leakages and reduced efficiency in the brakes. Periodic examination and possibly reconditioning or, in some cases, replacement of the wheel cylinder is crucial to keeping brake system conditions at their optimal or constructing a new wheel cylinder to fit the brake system architecture and specifications to get the optimal quality braking on the road.

Each OEM GMC Jimmy Wheel Cylinder we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

GMC Jimmy Wheel Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the brake drum, brake shoes and Wheel Cylinder on Chevrolet Blazer,S10,GMC Jimmy and Sonoma?
A: To remove the brake drum and Brake Shoes, start by unscrewing the brake line fitting from the rear of the wheel cylinder using a flare-nut wrench to avoid rounding off the corners. Be careful not to pull the metal line out of the wheel cylinder. Next, remove the two bolts securing the wheel cylinder to the brake backing plate and then remove the wheel cylinder. To prevent the loss of brake fluid and the entry of dirt, plug the end of the brake line. For the overhaul process, disassemble the wheel cylinder by removing the rubber boot from each end, pushing out the pistons and cups, and removing the cup return spring and expander. Replace the rubber parts with new ones from the rebuild kit. Inspect the pistons for scoring and scuff marks and replace them if necessary. Check the cylinder bore for score marks and corrosion, and if present, consider honing or replacing the cylinder. Clean the cylinder with brake system cleaner or denatured alcohol and ensure the bleeder screw hole is clean. Lubricate the cylinder bore with clean brake fluid and insert the new rubber cups, making sure the lip faces in. Install the expander spring and remaining cup, attach the rubber boots to the pistons, and then install the pistons and boots. Finally, for installation, attach the brake line to the wheel cylinder before tightening the mounting bolts and line fitting. Use a flare-nut wrench if available. Bleed the brakes and thoroughly test their operation before driving the vehicle in traffic.
