GMC Canyon Wheel Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install an axleshaft oil seal?
A: Remove the axleshaft. Pry the oil seal out of the end of the axle housing with a seal removal tool. Apply a film of multi-purpose grease to the oil seal recess and tap the new seal evenly into place with a hammer and seal installation tool. Use a seal driver to install the axleshaft oil seal-drive the seal in until it's flush with the bore, large socket or piece of pipe so the lips are facing in and the metal face is visible from the end of the axle housing. When correctly installed, the face of the oil seal should be flush with the end of the axle housing. Install the axleshaft.
