Q: What is the purpose of Idle Control Valve in Chevrolet Tracker?
A: A consistent idle speed is vital for vehicle fuel efficiency and emissions. Idle speed can vary due to engine load, atmospheric pressure, and engine wear. Fuel-injected vehicles use idle speed control systems, with Samurai models using the PCM-controlled Idle Speed Control (ISC) solenoid valve and Sidekick/Tracker models using the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. To test either valve, disconnect its electrical connector and measure resistance. If resistance is off, replace the valve. For ISC replacement, disconnect connectors and air/vacuum hoses, then replace the valve. For IAC replacement on 1992-1998 models, remove the appropriate parts based on injection type and replace. On 1999+ models, just disconnect the electrical connector, remove screws, and replace the valve with a new O-ring.
