Chevrolet Silverado Steering Wheel Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you remove and install a steering wheel?
A: To remove the steering wheel, first park the vehicle with the wheels straight and disconnect the battery. Disable the airbag system and use a small rod to release the airbag module on each side of the steering wheel. Carefully lift the module and disconnect the electrical connectors. Unplug the clockspring connector and remove the steering wheel retaining nut, marking its position if necessary. Wiggle the steering wheel away from the shaft and lift it while guiding the airbag module harnesses through the hub. To install the steering wheel, center the Steering Shaft and clockspring. Rotate the hub until the index marks align and the centering window displays color. Install the clockspring and snap-ring, reconnect the electrical connectors, and install the steering wheel while aligning the index marks. Tighten the steering wheel nut and reconnect the wiring harness and airbag connector. Finally, position the airbag module on the steering wheel and enable the airbag system.
