How to remove and install a starter motor on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL?

First of all, you need to disconnect the starter motor cable from the negative battery terminal; then on V8 models you will have to loosen the right front wheel lug nuts and raise the front part of your car using jackstands. For V6 models remove oil pan skid plate in case it is equipped and on V8 models as well remove right front wheel well splash shield. Remove if applicable a starter motor heat shield respectively and separate starter control cable and battery cable from starter motor solenoid terminals. On V8 models take off transmission cover, finally unscrew the mounting bolts of a starting engine. To install a new starter, just reverse the order of these steps ensuring that bolts are tightened according to specifications for torque.

How to troubleshoot a malfunction in the Starter on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL?

When troubleshooting a starting circuit malfunction, check battery cable clamps, cables, battery condition, starter solenoid wiring, connections, and mounting bolts. Also, ensure shift lever is in PARK or NEUTRAL. If starter doesn't operate when ignition is turned to START, check for battery voltage to solenoid and test starting system circuit. If starter turns over slowly, check cranking voltage and current drawn from battery. If values are incorrect, replace starter. If starter receives voltage but doesn't activate, remove and check starter/solenoid assembly on bench, ensuring engine isn't seized. If solenoid plunger extends and rotates pinion drive, assembly is working properly.

A: First of all, you need to disconnect the starter motor cable from the negative battery terminal; then on V8 models you will have to loosen the right front wheel lug nuts and raise the front part of your car using jackstands. For V6 models remove oil pan skid plate in case it is equipped and on V8 models as well remove right front wheel well splash shield. Remove if applicable a starter motor heat shield respectively and separate starter control cable and Battery Cable from starter motor solenoid terminals. On V8 models take off transmission cover, finally unscrew the mounting bolts of a starting engine. To install a new starter, just reverse the order of these steps ensuring that bolts are tightened according to specifications for torque.
