Chevrolet Nova Water Pump

In Chevrolet Nova vehicles, the Water Pump is responsible for circulating coolant round the water jacket where the heat produced by the combustion process is absorbed and then taken to the radiator where it dissipates the heat. Earlier, these pumps came with belts that operated with the crankshaft; however, there is a growing trend of the use of electric water pumps in the modern models. Traditionally, Chevrolet Nova water pumps are made from cast iron though modern designs use aluminum casting as they are lighter and generally better. There are water pumps for performance, where the impellers and the passages are enhanced to significantly increase the flow of coolant thus useful for street as well as performance/racing vehicles. Other advantages of the electric water pumps are also the parasitic loss and complete separation of the coolant flow controlling from the RPM which will be preferable for the custom and high power applications.

Each OEM Chevrolet Nova Water Pump we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet Nova Water Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to check for water pump failure and how to remove and install a new water pump?
A: Two methods exist to check for water pump failure if it is installed on the engine. Any one of these quick checks indicating water pump failure should be replaced as soon as possible. A leak of coolant from the car beneath will indicate seal failure and imminent shaft bearing failure through the weep hole of a water pump. Another sign of possible bearing wear is if you hear a high-pitched squealing sound emanate from the water pump while the engine is running, and this requires immediate replacement of the water pump. To check for excessive bearing wear before it occurs, try moving the water pump pulley either horizontally or vertically: if there is any movement, it means that the life of the bearing is nearly over and that a new water pump needs to be installed. In removing it first disconnect negative battery cable and drain Radiator. After that remove engine cooling fan and radiator shroud to get access to water pump. Depending on model, year, equipment loosen adjusting and pivot bolts on wiper motor, air pump, alternator, air conditioning compressor, power steering pump etc., remove drivebelts from water pump pulley. Unbolt all mounting brackets that are connected with water pumps such as air pumps, alternators, air conditioning compressors and power steering brackets too. Further disconnect lower radiator hose at heater hose and bypass hose at water pump. Finally remove remaining bolts securing water pump to engine or front cover; then gently break gasket seal by rocking or tapping housing with hammer. On installation clean gasket surfaces thoroughly using gasket scraper or putty knife so as to eliminate any traces of old gasket material when transferring fittings and studs to new water pumps on front cover reattach new gaskets using thin coat of gasket sealant bolt new onto old loosely until all brackets are reinstalled in their original positions on water pumps tighten specified torque reassemble components reverse order removal ensure secure fastening adjust deflection based upon pulley center-to-center distance typically determines appropriate tension all drivebelts start engine and watch for leaks as upper radiator hose warms refill with correct antifreeze-water mixture reconnect negative battery cable maintain coolant level in reservoir during initial miles of driving.
