Chevrolet Malibu Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers
A: Always remove the cables by disconnecting the negative battery cable first and reconnect it last so that you don't short out the battery with your tool when you loosen the cable clamps. Even if you are only replacing a positive terminal cable, always start by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery. Now trace each of these old cables back to its other end and unplug them. See how each wire is routed before ordering it for use in installation. When buying new cables, take any of these old ones along. Always use identical parts to replace those cables. Use a wire brush to clean rust or corrosion from threads on the solenoid or ground connection. To prevent future corrosion, apply a light coat of battery terminal corrosion inhibitor or petroleum jelly onto threads of this bolt or nut. Securely tighten down mounting nut or bolt on the solenoid or ground connection with cable attached. Before fitting any new Batteries, make sure they go straight into their intended posts without having to be stretched up to them. Again, connect the ground cable to the negative battery post after you have connected the positive terminal one with another cable.
