Chevrolet HHR Fuel Level Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How do you disassemble the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module for Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION?
A: To disassemble the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module, begin by removing it and placing it on a clean workbench surface. Disconnect the fuel level sensor connector at the top of the module and unplug the connector housing from the bottom of the fuel pump cover by disengaging the locking tab with a screwdriver.
Q: How do you remove the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit module for Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION?
A: To remove the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, relieve the system fuel pressure and equalize tank pressure by removing the fuel filler cap. Next, remove the Fuel Tank and disconnect the fuel supply and return lines from the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor module, being careful to soak up any spilled fuel. Mark the orientation of the fuel pump in relation to the fuel tank for proper realignment during installation. Use water pump pliers to unscrew the locknut counterclockwise, or use a hammer and brass punch if it's tight. Remove the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor, taking care not to damage the fuel inlet strainer or the Fuel Level Sensor float arm and float. For installation, inspect and replace the pump-to-tank seal if necessary, and ensure the fuel pump inlet strainer is clean. Carefully align and insert the fuel pump/Fuel Level Sensor module into the tank, avoiding damage to the strainer, float arm, or float. Finally, reconnect the battery and allow the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to relearn its former driveability and performance characteristics.
