How Should the Brake Light Switch Be Adjusted or Replaced on Chevrolet Caprice?

The switch is located on a flange or bracket protruding from the brake pedal support. With the brake pedal fully released, the plunger on the body of the switch should be fully pressed in. When the pedal is pushed, the plunger releases and sends electrical current to the stop lights at the rear of the car. Electrical contact should be made when the pedal is depressed 38 to 64 inches; if not, the switch can be adjusted by turning it in or out as needed. To replace a faulty switch, disconnect the electrical coupler (two couplers if the car is equipped with cruise control) and loosen the switch locknut until the switch can be unscrewed from the bracket, with installation being the reverse of this process.
