Chevrolet Caprice Antenna Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install the Antenna on Chevrolet Caprice?
A: Lower the antenna mast all the way by turning off the radio or ignition key switch. If the unit has failed with the antenna mast in the 'Up' position, it may be advisable to cut off the mast portion to make replacement easier. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Access to the power antenna motor is through the inner fender panel; raise the vehicle and remove the front tire for better access if necessary. Remove the fender skirt attaching screws and pull down on the rear edge of the skirt, using a piece of 2x4-inch lumber as a spacer to keep the skirt pulled away while working. Remove the escutcheon nut at the fender, disconnect the electrical leads, and remove the antenna and motor assembly through the fender skirt opening. When installing a new unit, ensure that the mast is fully retracted and the lower bracket attachment is secured by the fender skirt attaching screw.
