Q: What are the checks to be done on the seat belt system?
A: Ensure that the seat belts, buckles, latch plates and guide loops are not visibly damaged or worn. Turn the key to the Run or Start position and see if the seat belt reminder light comes on and a chime sounds. Seat belts should lock up during sudden stops or crashes but allow free movement during normal driving. Whilst driving, ascertain that retractors return belt against your chest and rewind it completely when buckle is undone. Any issues discovered from these checks should necessitate replacement of parts in the seat belt system.
