Chevrolet Beretta A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you properly discharge and replace an accumulator on Chevrolet Beretta?
A: Begin by discharging the system. Next, disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, ensuring that the lockout feature is turned off if the Delco Loc II audio system is present. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. From below, disconnect the refrigerant lines from the accumulator, using a back-up wrench to prevent twisting the tubing. Plug the open fittings to keep out dirt and moisture. Loosen the mounting bracket bolts, remove the accumulator retaining strap bolt, and take out the strap and accumulator. If installing a new accumulator, remove the Schrader valve and pour the oil into a measuring cup, noting the amount. Add fresh refrigerant oil to the new accumulator equal to the amount removed from the old unit, plus one ounce. Finally, installation follows the reverse order of removal, and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
