Chevrolet Astro Knock Sensor

The Knock Sensor used in Chevrolet Astro automobiles helps in the performance of the automobile engine by helping in detecting an engine knock, a phenomenon characterized by an incorrect ignition timing. This device relays information to the powertrain control module (PCM) to alter the ignition time to reduce onslaught of excessive detonation. The Chevrolet Astro implements a piezoelectric knock sensor whose function is to detect any vibrations and integrate them into electrical signals for the pressure peak monitoring of knocking. Some of the years' Chevrolet Astro models have used sophisticate knock sensor technologies like the ability to vary the ignition timing to particular cylinders and vary boost pressure according to the design of the engine. This results in the premier possible engine operation at or slightly above the "knock-limit" and higher performance, even on lower octane fuels will not harm the engine. Most car makers have improved the Knock Sensor in Chevrolet Astro in various ways showing that there is gradual improvement in the various engine management systems within vehicles today.

Each OEM Chevrolet Astro Knock Sensor we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet Astro Knock Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How Do You Diagnose and Replace the ESC Knock Sensor and Module on Chevrolet Astro?
A: This is because; today's octane numbers in gasoline are not always constant, and they can lead into detonation in an engine otherwise referred to as spark knock The Electronic Spark Control (ESC) system is thus aim at retarding the spark timing up to 20 degrees to avoid spark knock and therefore enables maximum spark advance for driveability and fuel economy. Knock sensor, marked as ESC, is mounted on the left side of the block ahead of the oil filter on the V6 engine Transmitting voltage of 8 to 10 volts to the PCM when no spark knock is detected to allow normal advance. If there is an excessive vibration, the ESC module switches off the PCM circuit hence, the voltage at PCM terminal B7 dives to zero which then leads to the PCM retarding the EST distributor until spark knock is sensed. If the knock sensor signal from the ESC is not working or the ground to the ESC module is lost, the signal to the PCM will remain high and the retard will not be applied and there could be severe spark knock under heavy loads on the engine. Also, if the PCM is lost of the ESC signal, the PCM will continually retard EST which result in slow acceleration. This is due to spark-knock and it is solved by checking if all the electrical connectors are tight and healthy, as well as the engine ignition timing. If the timing is fine, use an oscilloscope to watch the timing marks and run the engine, gently knock the engine block in the region of the knock sensor to verify that the timing reduces and measure the resistance of the knock sensor. If the timing does not retard and the resistance is above or below the prescribed limit, then the sensor should be changed; if the resistance is within the prescribed limits, then the car should be taken for further tests. For component replacement, unplug the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, disconnect the wiring harness connecting the ESC sensor, then to the block, demount the sensor and reassemble in the reverse manner. For the ESC module, remove the battery cable, remove the engine cover, the module is at the rear of the engine compartment, disconnect the wiring, remove the bolts, and reinstall in reverse.
