Q: How to remove and install the turn signal switch in Cadillac ElDorado and Fleetwood?
A: To begin the process of disabling the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) for early models of Cadillac DeVille, Eldorado, Seville, and Fleetwood, locate and disable it. Remove the appropriate sound insulator and disconnect the yellow 2-way connector at the base of the steering column. Make sure that you remove the Steering Wheel while ensuring that the Ignition Switch is in LOCK position. Remove the SIR coil assembly retaining ring and coil assembly. To do this remove wave washer and shaft lock retaining ring using specified tools. Take out shaft lock, turn signal canceling cam assembly, upper bearing spring, upper bearing inner race seat as well as inner race. On certain models it is necessary to remove multi-function turn signal lever, hazard warning switch knob and signal switch arm. Then take off turn signal switch, wiring protector and carefully pull wire harness through column. The installation of turn signal switch will include routing harness through column; connecting electrical connector; positioning switch; tightening retaining screws. After that reassemble any removed components and enable SIR system again. For late models of DeVille, Eldorado, and Fleetwood disable SIR system then remove inflator module/steering wheel/disconnect battery/sir coil assembly/wave washer/shaft lock retaining ring/shaft lock/turn signal canceling cam assembly/upper bearing components/signal switch. Unplug turn signal switch connector and remove wiring protector by gently pulling wire harness through steering column. To install feed turn signal switch assembly wiring harness through column connect switch connector to bulkhead connector install turn signal switch tighten screws. Assemble signal switch arm hazard knob assembly among other things again as per reverse order provided in manual or other instructions given after removing components.Reinstall all removed parts unless stated otherwise by manufacturer/other sources.Fit new shaft lock bearing retainer temporarily using specified tool.Make sure steering shaft is properly aligned before installing wave washer center coil assembly hub, seat coil assembly and attach coil assembly retaining ring. For reinstallation, install the wiring protector and remaining components in reverse order as shown below, and enable the SIR system as described in the instructions provided. In the case of Seville models, remove the negative battery cable first before disabling the SIR system, removing the steering wheel, knee bolster, and shrouds. Remove nuts that secure steering column; then lower it and finally remove tilt arm handle. Take out wire harness straps and wire harness assembly from steering column tilt head assembly. Then do just that starting from component removal in reverse order.Reinstall parts using reverse methodology.
