- Q: How to remove and install a power brake booster on Cadillac ElDorado?A: The power brake booster is a tandem vacuum suspended unit that operates with vacuum on both sides of the diaphragms in normal mode, the power assist when brakes are applied as atmospheric air is admitted in one side of each diaphragm. When the brakes are released, the flow of the atmospheric air is interrupted and air is pulled into the booster through the vacuum check valve to the vacuum demand. The internal part of the booster is not-serviceable and non-interchangeable being an independent component. To remove the booster, the negative battery cable and the booster vacuum hose must be disconnected from the vacuum check valve. Next, loosen the master cylinder mounting nuts and then slightly translate The master cylinder to the forward position without the disconnecting of the brake lines. Next, if equipped, personalize the acoustical barrier from the booster studs and, thereafter, the booster mounting nuts. Release the connector of the booster pushrod from the brake pedal, and slightly incline the booster to relieve pressure at the side of the pushrod, and then remove the booster assembly from the car, and also remove the gasket if necessary. For installation, if required the gasket has to be fitted to the booster and the booster fitted in the vehicle; and the pushrod fitted to the brake pedal with the booster being tilted slightly upwards.
