Q: How to replace the crankshaft sensor on Cadillac DeVille and DTS?
A: In 2000 and later models, the PCM must be reprogrammed using special equipment whenever the crankshaft sensor is replaced or the crankshaft pulley is removed and installed. A qualified automotive repair facility or a dealer service department should do this. In front of the block, slightly above and to the left of the oil filter are located two CKP sensors. This procedure applies to either sensor. Then, remove the cable from negative battery terminal connection. After that, raise the vehicle's front end and place it on jackstands securely. Thereafter, disconnect CKP sensor electrical connector. For removing a CKP sensor unplug electrical connector and remove sensor retaining bolt. The "B" CKP sensor which sits right atop the "A" one is also removed in this manner. Then, remove the CKP sensor retaining bolt as well as the CKP sensor itself. Remove & inspect for wear or damage to the CKP sensor O-ring. If it has been worn out or damaged replace it thereupon. With clean engine oil coat new O-ring and install it on CKP sensor. The opposite of removal is installation.Tighten up the specific torque for CKP sensor retaining bolt. For 2006 & later models,CKP sensor is located at top of engine block beneath intake manifold.Remove intake manifold. To disconnect wiring harness of CKP disconnect. Then remove bolt from CKP Sensor as well as remove Sensor.Installation is reversed with respect to removal.
