A: If the radiator fan is not coming on when the engine temperature rises to an excessive level, it is recommended to check the fan relays in the underhood fuse/relay box. If the relays are found to be okay, the next step is to check all wiring and connections to the fan motor. If no obvious problems are found, the issue could be with the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor or the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). In such cases, it is advised to have the radiator fan system and circuit diagnosed with the proper diagnostic equipment. To remove the fan, first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and raise the vehicle securely on jackstands. Remove the splash shield and drain the cooling system, saving the coolant if it is still in good condition. Detach the upper radiator hose and remove the air filter housing and inlet air resonator. Disconnect and plug the expansion tank hose and remove the fastener for the air conditioning line mounting clip. Remove the auxiliary water pump and any hoses if present. Disconnect the fan motor electrical connector(s) and detach the wire harness clips from the fan shroud. Remove the fan shroud-to-radiator mounting bolts and lift the fan/shroud assembly from the vehicle. To detach the fan blade from the motor, remove the nut from the motor shaft, and to detach the motor from the shroud, remove the retaining bolts and disconnect the electrical connector. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to reconnect the battery and refill the cooling system. Finally, start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature, checking for leaks and proper operation.
