Buick Regal Ignition Lock Cylinder

The Ignition Lock Cylinder in Buick Regal cars is used in starting the engine with the help of the key to be inserted and then turned. This is done through the integration of the mechanism of the ignition switch that forwards battery energy to the appropriate circuits when the right key is inserted. Old models of the Buick Regal had key operated ignition mechanisms while Buick Regal current models has employed keyless ignition mechanisms, which provides more convenience apart from security. The contemporary versions have replaced a column-mounted ignition lock cylinder with keyless fobs that create a dialogue with the automobile's computer, providing push buttons to start the car. However, the Ignition Lock Cylinder to this date can prove unreliable mainly due to aging and general wear and tear, which makes it hard to twist the key or even start the engine. On balance, the application of the Ignition Lock Cylinder is still significant to the operation and protection of Buick Regal cars' mechanisms.

Each OEM Buick Regal Ignition Lock Cylinder we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Buick Regal Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove and Install the Lock Cylinder on Buick Regal?
A: For vehicles without an air bag, place the Ignition Switch in the RUN position, then remove the lockplate, Turn Signal Switch, and buzzer switch. Next, remove the screw and lock cylinder, being cautious not to drop the screw into the column, which would necessitate complete disassembly to retrieve it. To install, rotate the cylinder clockwise to align the key with the keyway in the housing, push the lock all the way in, and install the screw, tightening it to 14 inch lbs. for adjustable columns and 25 inch lbs. for standard columns. For vehicles with an air bag, turn the steering wheel so the wheels are straight ahead, place the ignition switch in the LOCK position, and disable the air bag system by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Remove the coil assembly retaining ring and disconnect the inflatable restraint coil assembly, allowing it to hang freely if not removed. Proceed to remove the wave washer and the shaft retaining lock ring using the appropriate tool, then remove the shaft lock and disconnect the canceling cam assembly. Remove the upper bearing spring, race seat, and race, position the turn signal to the right turn position, and remove the multi-function lever and hazard knob assembly. Unfasten the round washer head screw and the signal switch arm and turn signal switch screws, then remove the turn signal switch assembly by disconnecting the connector from the bulkhead and gently pulling on the harness. Ensure the coil assembly remains centered to prevent issues during removal. Remove the inflatable restraint coil assembly with the wiring harness, attach a length of mechanics wire to the coil terminal connector for reassembly, and gently pull the wire through the column. Remove the key from the steering column lock cylinder set and the buzzer switch assembly, then reinsert the key into the lock cylinder and turn it to the LOCK position. Remove the lock retaining screw and the cylinder. For installation, ensure all fasteners are securely seated before applying torque to avoid component damage. Install the lock cylinder assembly, insert the retaining screw, and tighten to 22 inch lbs. Insert the key into the lock cylinder, install the buzzer switch assembly, and turn the key to the LOCK position. Install the turn signal switch assembly wiring harness through the column, allowing the switch to hang freely, and connect the wiring to the bulkhead. Insert the coil assembly wiring harness through the column, letting the coil hang freely, then attach the turn signal assembly with binding head screws, tightening them to 30 inch lbs. Attach the signal switch arm with the round washer head screw, tightening it to 20 inch lbs., and install the hazard knob assembly and multi-function lever. Install the inner race, upper bearing race seat, and spring, then attach the turn signal cancelling cam assembly with grease for lubrication. Replace the shaft lock and install a new shaft lock retaining ring, ensuring it is firmly seated in the groove on the shaft. Set the steering shaft so that the block tooth on the race and upper shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, ensuring the vehicle's wheel is straight ahead, and set the ignition switch to the LOCK position to protect the coil assembly. Install the wave washer, attach the coil assembly while ensuring it is centered correctly, and secure the coil assembly retaining ring in the groove on the shaft. Gently pull the lower coil assembly, turn signal, and pivot wires to remove any kinks, then complete the assembly of the steering column and attach the negative battery cable. Finally, check the functions of the turn signal to ensure it cancels when activated and the steering wheel is turned.
