Q: How do you remove the Throttle Body on Buick LaCrosse?
A: To remove the throttle body, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, remove the air intake duct and, on 2.4L models, the air intake resonator. If you have a 3.8L V6 model, partially drain the engine coolant to a point lower than that of the throttle body. For VB models, disconnect the EVAP purge line from the throttle body. Next, disconnect the throttle body electrical connector and remove the throttle body mounting bolts. Inspect the O-ring type throttle body gasket and replace it if it is damaged or worn. If the vehicle is old, it is recommended to replace the gasket regardless of its condition. To install the throttle body, start by installing the gasket and then the throttle body, tightening the mounting bolts to the proper torque specifications. For 3.8L V6 models, refill the cooling system. Start the engine and verify that the throttle body operates correctly and that there are no air leaks. Perform the idle relearn procedure by turning the ignition to OH and waiting 30 seconds, then turning the ignition On (not Start) and waiting for 60 seconds. Turn the ignition to Off and check for any trouble codes stored in the PCM, erasing them if necessary. Start the engine and allow it to idle for three minutes. After the three minutes, the PCM should start to learn the new idle patterns and adjust the idle speed. The engine should slow to almost normal. Turn the engine off for one minute, then start it again and allow it to idle for three minutes. At the end of the second 3-minute cycle, the idle should be normal. If the engine does not idle properly, drive the vehicle above 44 mph, then decelerate and accelerate several times, allowing it to idle in between. Stop the vehicle and turn the engine off for one minute; the engine should now idle normally. Clear any trouble codes that may have been set.
