A: To remove the fuel tank, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. If applicable, remove the left and right rear underbody air deflectors. It is also recommended to remove the part of the exhaust system underneath the fuel tank for easier lowering. Next, disconnect the fuel tank filler hose and the fuel feed, fuel return, and EVAP vent line quick-connect fittings. On newer models, remove the fasteners from the front of the right-rear inner fender splash shield and unplug the electrical connector for the Fuel Pump module wiring harness. Support the fuel tank with a floor jack and remove the bolts from the non-hinged end of the longitudinal straps that support the tank. Carefully lower the tank to access the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module and disconnect the fuel line quick-connect fitting and electrical connectors. Finally, lower the tank completely. To install, simply reverse the removal steps.
