    To remove the shift cable, first disconnect it at the transaxle and test the shifter to see if it moves smoothly without the cable. If adjustment is needed, follow these steps: raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Next, remove the nut securing the cable, lower the vehicle, remove the center console, and push aside the carpet. Pry the shift cable end from the shift lever pin using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry the U-shaped shift cable retaining clip away from the cable, and place a blanket over the driver's fender. Find the shift lever in the engine compartment and disconnect the cable end from it.

    For adjustment, follow these steps: 1. Place the shift lever in Park. 2. Detach the cable from the range select lever on the transaxle. 3. Release the tab under the protective sleeve over the adjustment lock using a small screwdriver. 4. Push the adjuster lockout until the cable end can move freely. 5. Connect the cable to the cable bracket and the manual lever on the transaxle in the Park position. 6. Push the white adjuster tab back into place and slide the black lock tab into place. 7. Check that the engine starts only in Park and Neutral positions and that all gear ranges can be selected. 8. If the engine can start in any other position, adjust the Transmission Range Sensor and check the shift cable again.
