    Q:
How to remove the steering gear boot for Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the rack and pinion boot, start by loosening the lug nuts and raising the vehicle, then support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel and proceed to remove the tie-rod end and jam nut. Use pliers to remove the outer rack and pinion boot clamp and cut off the inner boot clamp with diagonal cutters. Slide off the boot. Before installing the new boot, wrap the threads and serrations on the end of the steering rod with tape to protect the small end of the new boot. Slide the new boot into position on the rack and pinion, ensuring it seats in the groove in the steering rod, and install new clamps. Remove the tape and proceed to install the tie-rod end. For installation, start by installing the wheel and lug nuts, then lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque specifications. Finally, have the front end alignment checked.

    Q:
How do you remove the steering gear boot on Saturn Vue? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the boot for the rack and pinion, first, loose the lug nuts and lift the car safely using jack stands. Then take off the wheel before removing tie rod end and jam nut. After that, take off all clamps connected to the boot of rack and pinion and slide it away. For an installation process, start with wrapping threads and teeth at the steering rod's end by a tape in order to save a new boot from damage. Let some grease be applied on both tie rod and inner of boots. Slide this new boot into its suitable position over rack & pinion in such a way that it fits into housing and steering rod grooves as well. Fasten clamps then remove tape if any. Place wheel followed by tie rod end then lug nuts back in place, lower vehicle while tightening lug nuts up to recommended torque respectively. Lastly have wheel alignment checked or adjusted where necessary.
