    Q:
How do you remove and replace a front crankshaft seal on Chevrolet Metro? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the timing belt, crankshaft sprocket, and inner belt guide. Wrap the tip of a small screwdriver with tape and, working from below, use the screwdriver to pry the seal out of the bore, being careful not to damage the crankshaft or the seal bore. Clean and inspect the seal bore and the seal contact surface on the crankshaft, removing minor imperfections with emery cloth. If a groove is worn in the crankshaft seal surface, installing a new seal may not stop the leak; consider using a repair sleeve that fits over the crankshaft sealing surface, typically available at larger auto parts stores. Lubricate the outer edge of the new seal with multi-purpose grease or engine oil, as well as the seal lip, and drive the seal into place with a hammer and socket. Reinstall the timing belt and related components, then run the engine and check for oil leaks.
