    Q:
How to remove the Engine Control Module on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
For six-cylinder models, extreme caution must be taken in order to avoid static electricity damage when removing the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Before touching the PCM, ground yourself to the body of the vehicle and use an anti-static pad for storage purposes after removal. It should be noted that a new PCM will require reprogramming with special equipment, as well as going through a crankshaft position sensor variation relearn procedure and a vehicle anti-theft system password relearn procedure. The following procedure is applicable only to removal and installation of original PCM. Pull off the positive cable from battery terminal then clean any debris around the connectors of the PCM. Unscrew the bolts then gently pull apart electrical connectors from PCM. Unfasten mounting nuts and bolts then lift out PCM. Disconnecting battery cable and cleaning debris around connector on PCM are same for V8 models made between 2002-04. Remove cover on top of PCM then release its retainer latch. Take off mounting tabs and remove it from bracket. Carefully release electrical connections from it by unlocking screws holding them up at their place. For V8 models starting 2005 disconnect battery cable together with cooling fan electrical connector respectively.Remove ECM cover then clear all rubbish surrounding other side of electrical connectors before reaching out to this part below.Detaching bank of three electrical connectors from ECM is another move one would make.Detach both latches holding it in place with two fingers' tension so that top section can tilt away while fining points of nothingness inside which you find another engine control module thus removing this part entirely.
