Use solvent to clean all old grease from the bearings, hub, and spindle, allowing parts to air dry. Inspect the bearings for damage and check the bearing races for wear; defective races require professional replacement. Pack the bearings with high-temperature grease, ensuring it is worked completely into the bearings. Apply grease to the spindle and place a small quantity inboard of each bearing race inside the hub. Insert the grease-packed inner bearing into the hub, tap a new seal into place, and carefully place the hub assembly onto the spindle, pushing the outer bearing into position. Install the spacer and wheel bearing nut, tightening it to 57 ft-lbs while spinning the hub by hand. Loosen the spindle nut slightly, then use a torque wrench to tighten it and install the lock washer and wheel bearing lock nut, ensuring the lock washer is bent flat against the nut.

Clean the bearing bore in the axle housing, apply a thin coat of grease to the outer surface of the bearing, and smear the lips of the axleshaft seal with grease before guiding the axle straight into the axle housing.
