    Q:
How to remove and install a manual or automatic transmission flywheel on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the manual transmission, one should matchmark the clutch cover and flywheel for reinstallation. Removing the flywheel involves unscrewing the bolts which are spaced unevenly. To replace a ring gear, bore a hole between two teeth and then split it using a cold chisel. To install a new gear, first polish areas on the ring, heat it until the polished spots turn blue, and place it on the flywheel shoulder. Subsequently, allow ring to cool and collapse back into place. The flywheel must be free of burrs as well as crankshaft flange before installation of flywheel commences. For automatic transmission removal, first detach the transmission and then remove six bolts that attach flywheel to crankshaft flange. In this regard, while inspecting a flywheel for cracks, wear or broken teeth also check for burrs on crankshaft flange and flywheel). Install the flywheel in its correct position with irregularly spaced bolt holes; thereafter torque bolts to specification. Check runout on the face of the flywheel using dial indicator; high side should be tapped with a mallet if necessary. If runout is beyond limit, remove the wheel again checking for burrs between it and crankshaft mounting flange.

    Q:
How to remove and inspect the flywheel/driveplate in 2.0L/2.2L four cylinder overhead valve engine on Chevrolet Beretta? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, you will need to raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the transaxle. This is an opportune time for those vehicles with automatic transaxle to replace their front pump seals/o-rings if they are leaking. On vehicles fitted with manual transaxle, you will have to remove the pressure plate and clutch disc. The clutch components and pilot bearing can also be checked or replaced at this point. If there is no dowel pin, this means that you have to make some marks on both the flywheel/driveplate and crankshaft so as not to miss alignment during reinstallation. You must remove bolts that attach the flywheel/driveplate to the crankshaft. Insert a screwdriver between the drive plate holes of automatic transmissions or fix it against teeth of a ring gear on flywheel for manual transmissions in case that crankshaft tries turning. When removing one last bolt, ensure that you hold up the tentatively heavy flywheel properly. Get off from the engine's crankshaft by pulling out driveplate/flywheel assembly from it; pay attention and do not put them somewhere around! The grease and oil needs removal so clean up your flywheel thoroughly well before inspecting its friction surfaces where cracks burns rivet grooves score marks should be spotted easily enough among light scoring which might be polished off using emery cloth if any exists besides check out whether your ring gear has cracked or broken teeth while checking flatness of a surface under it's bottom edge Make sure that both faces are smooth even though they may look rough due to accumulated dust dirt etc.; sometimes when installing new rear oil seals never forget about putting some grease onto them prior their installation instead position properly against dowels or previously drawn marks if applied aligning fly wheel into correct place during disassembly stage use thread locker when applying nuts complete everything described above tightening way too much could make heads get loose in reverse order of course.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall the Driveplate in V6 engine on Chevrolet Impala? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the transaxle, first raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Next, remove the bolts securing the driveplate to the crankshaft, noting that most driveplates have locating dowels; if yours does not, make marks for proper alignment during reassembly. If the crankshaft turns, use a screwdriver to jam the driveplate by wedging it in the ring gear teeth, or use a large screwdriver in one of the driveplate holes to prevent it from turning while removing the bolts. Be aware of any retaining ring between the bolts and the driveplate, and note which side faces the driveplate upon removal. Carefully take off the driveplate while wearing gloves to protect your fingers from sharp edges. Clean the driveplate to remove grease and oil, inspecting it for cracks and checking for any damaged ring gear teeth, laying it on a flat surface to check for warpage. Clean and inspect the mating surfaces of the driveplate and crankshaft, replacing the crankshaft rear seal if it is leaking before reinstalling the driveplate. For installation, position the driveplate against the crankshaft, aligning it with the marks made during removal, and ensure correct installation using any alignment dowels or staggered bolt holes present. Apply thread locking compound to the bolt threads and place the retaining ring on the driveplate before tightening the bolts. Use a screwdriver to keep the driveplate from turning while torquing the bolts, and consider replacing the front pump seal/O-ring if it is leaking. The remaining steps for installation follow the reverse order of removal.

    Q:
How to remove and reinstall the transaxle and driveplate in V8 engine on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
Take out the transaxle then freely can undo the drive plate and consider checking the condition of the former for damages and wears. It is recommended that prior to putting in the bolts, a locking compound is smeared on the threads of the bolt. Place the driveplate in position and tighten the bolts to the indicated torque values, but before doing so, tighten in stages, in the criss-cross manner. The rest of the installation process is done in a sequential reverse order to the removal process.

    Q:
How to remove and install the Flywheel in four cylinder engine on Pontiac Fiero? Posted by Customer
    A:
This is a one-piece oil seal, which is conveniently designed to be replaced without having to ad-remove the oil pan or crankshaft. First of all, it is necessary to unbolt the trans axle which must be done while adhering to all the notes on the procedure. If the vehicle has manually trans axle then the pressure plate and clutch disk should be removed. What comes next is the elimination of the flywheel or the drive plate retaining bolts and pop it off from the crankshaft. Remove the rear main oil seal with a screwdriver or pry bar by gently prying it out of the block. Thoroughly wash the crankshaft-to-seal and block mating surface with solvent. Before installing a new seal, a thin layer of engine oil must be spread over the exterior of the seal, and it is fixed firmly into the block using the fingertips. Replace the flywheel or the drive plate, after having the bolts tightly fastened to the recommended torque level. For the manual trans axle vehicles, replace the clutch disc and the pressure plate and then fit the trans axle.

    Q:
How can the flywheel be unbolted from the crankshaft rear flange and properly installed in V8 engine on Oldsmobile Cutlass? Posted by Customer
    A:
The flywheel can easily be un bolted from the crank shaft rear flange once the transmission has been removed; for manual transmission the following should be undone, the clutch housing and clutch. To prevent crankshaft turning while untightening the bolts, place a piece of wood between one of the crankshaft throws and the side of the engine block, or use an alignment pin passed through the flywheel against the engine block. C Cleaning Flywheel and Crankshaft Before you place the flywheel it becomes necessary that both the flywheel and the crankshaft is clean in terms of the mating faces of the given parts. When putting the transmission in place use the dowel of the crankshaft in place with the corresponding dowel in the flywheel. With automatics position the flywheel with the torque converter attaching pads towards the transmission. Gradually tighten the bolts until you use the correct torque limit or specification and on the bolts a thread sealing agent ought to be applied. Also, on the remaining bolts, employ a piece of wood or a center punch against the block to lock the flywheel to avoid it turning while tightening the bolts.

    Q:
How Do You Remove and Install the Flywheel/Driveplate and Inspect for Leaks in 3.5L,3.9L V6 engine on Pontiac G6? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before any disassembly it is necessary to lift the car and secure it to jackstands, to pull out the transaxle. After that, undo the bolts which joins the flywheel or the driveplate to the crankshaft, making sure that alignment is marked if there is no dowel pins. If the crankshaft turns, use a screwdriver to jam the flywheel/driveplate. Any orientation of a retaining ring when remove needs to be noted. With much care, remove the flywheel/driveplate then put on gloves to avoid coming into contact with sharp edges. Scrub the flywheel/driveplate for the removal of any grease and oil and look fro cracks and warpage on a flat surface. Also, the flywheel/drive plate mating surfaces and crankshaft mating surface must be cleanned and inspected; the crankshaft rear seal must be replaced if leaking. During installation, the flywheel/driveplate must be placed on the crankshaft in a way that the previously made alignment marks match; the bolts should be washed with thread locking compound and the retaining ring placed at the same time. In fact, it is recommended to make use of the screwdriver to lock up the flywheel/driveplate so as to prevent it from rotating even as the bolts are tightened to the stipulated torque. If front pump seal or O-ring is bad, replace them at this time. The following steps are as follows and are performed in the reverse order of the removal of structures.

    Q:
How do you properly remove and reinstall a driveplate in 2.5L four cylinder engine on Pontiac Grand Prix? Posted by Customer
    A:
Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the transaxle. If there's a leak, it's an ideal time to replace the front pump seal and O-ring for automatic transaxles. In the absence of a dowel pin, mark the driveplate and crankshaft to ensure correct alignment during reinstallation, as most driveplates have locating dowels. Remove the bolts securing the driveplate to the crankshaft, using a large screwdriver to prevent the driveplate from turning. If the crankshaft turns, wedge a screwdriver through the openings in the driveplate, and support the driveplate while removing the last bolt. After removing the driveplate, clean it to eliminate grease and oil, inspecting for cracks and damaged ring gear teeth, and check for warpage using a straightedge. Clean and inspect the mating surfaces of the driveplate and crankshaft, replacing the crankshaft rear seal if it's leaking before reinstalling the driveplate. Position the driveplate against the crankshaft, aligning the dowel or marks made during removal, and apply thread locking compound to the bolt threads before installation. Prevent the driveplate from turning while tightening the bolts to the specified torque, and complete the installation by reversing the removal procedure.
