C Cleaning Flywheel and Crankshaft Before you place the flywheel it becomes necessary that both the flywheel and the crankshaft is clean in terms of the mating faces of the given parts. When putting the transmission in place use the dowel of the crankshaft in place with the corresponding dowel in the flywheel. With automatics position the flywheel with the torque converter attaching pads towards the transmission. Gradually tighten the bolts until you use the correct torque limit or specification and on the bolts a thread sealing agent ought to be applied. In fact, it is recommended to make use of the screwdriver to lock up the flywheel/driveplate so as to prevent it from rotating even as the bolts are tightened to the stipulated torque. If front pump seal or O-ring is bad, replace them at this time. The following steps are as follows and are performed in the reverse order of the removal of structures.

Position the driveplate against the crankshaft, aligning the dowel or marks made during removal, and apply thread locking compound to the bolt threads before installation. Prevent the driveplate from turning while tightening the bolts to the specified torque, and complete the installation by reversing the removal procedure.

Tap the high side of the flex plate with a mallet or similar tool to correct it.

Take out the bolts securing the flywheel to the crankshaft flange and remove the flywheel.

Inspect the driveplate for cracks and chipped teeth, and replace it if damaged.

If the starter ring gear is worn or the mounting bolt holes are elongated, replace the complete driveplate.

If it's leaking, now would be a very good time to replace the front pump seal O-ring for automatic transaxles.

Clean and inspect the mating surfaces of the driveplate and crankshaft, replacing the crankshaft rear seal if it's leaking.

A special engine support beam, a telescoping transaxle stand, a hydraulic hoist, and an engine hoist are needed to remove the transaxle.
