    Q:
Why are frequent oil and Oil Filter changes important preventive maintenance procedures that can be done by the home mechanic for Chevrolet Tracker? Posted by Customer
    A:
The home mechanic can do frequent oil changes as important preventive maintenance procedures. When engine oil gets older, it becomes diluted and polluted, resulting into premature engine wear. It is good to have a new oil filter each time the oil is changed because it is cheap and easy to install. All necessary tools and materials must be gathered before starting the process. Prepare yourself with clean rags and newspapers in case of spills. One way of doing this is by using a hoist or raising the vehicle on ramps, or jack stands and driving under it. Ensure that you locate where the oil drain plug and oil filter are located underneath the vehicle. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperatures, gather any necessary tools, and get some oil ready. Safely raise and support the vehicle with warm engine oil as directed above/ Place a drain pan under drain plug and remove plug with wrench. Allow all old oil to drain out completely then wipe off drain plug carefully / Clean around the drain plug opening area before replacing securely / With your right hand holding on to the back of your left palm emptying itself into a stainless steel container below you / Move the drain pan under filter then use filter wrench to loosen and remove old one / Compare old one with new so as ensure they are similar type / Clean place where mounting on new one is done while ensuring that rubber gasket has light coating of clean oil in it / Caution: Oil Filter Installation Guidelines-After tightening according to these directions, leave no traces of any tool(s) used during installation around your car or truck except for a storage space for them which might not be bad unless you are planning some terrible things against other people; but if not,… Remove your tools before lowering your car back down onto its wheels at this point / Locate oil filler cap in engine compartment & fill four quarts fresh oil into engine close hood Wait for all oils to empty out well from dipstick checking level Start engine looking for leaks at drain plug and oil filter Check oil level again and add more if necessary While driving in the first few miles after changing oil, remember to check that there are no leaks and verify the level of oil/ Dispose of it properly by taking it to a recycling facility, but not by pouring on ground or down drains.

    Q:
How to perform a frequent Oil Filter and oil change for preventive maintenance on Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe? Posted by Customer
    A:
Oil changes are vital to prevent engine wear and it is also important to have the necessary tools. Lift the vehicle using a hoist or jack stand and find the oil drain plug. Raise the vehicle, remove the splash shield, and place a drain pan under the oil pan. Remove the plug, drain the old oil, and check for metal shavings. Clean and reinstall the plug. You should lubricate the new filter's gasket with oil and install it. Dispose of the old oil properly.
