    Q:
How to change the oil and Oil Filter equipped with an oil life indicator system on Cadillac DeVille? Posted by Customer
    A:
The vehicles are fitted with an oil life indicator lamp that comes on the instrument when the oil is 'used up' according to various factors this system allows for more than 3000 miles between 'changes' frequent changes are advisable for the extension the engine life. If they prefer to stick with the oil life indicator, they should under no circumstances take the car beyond 10,000 miles before changing the oil. It is another type of preventive maintenance since if the oil gets old, it gets diluted and contaminated and this makes the engine wear out early. At the start of your hand washing be sure to have all the tools within reach and which paper, whether its rag or newspapers for wiping off spills. The best way to get at the underside of the vehicle is with a hoist, ramps, or jackstands. Become acquainted with the position of the oil drain plug and oil filter and it is advisable to warm the engine so as to make oil to drain easily. Choose a flat surface and park the car, then start the engine and let it run to warm the fluids, before switching it off. Chock the wheels, set the jackstands on the car, put the drain pan below the drain plug and using the gloves remove the plug since it will be extremely hot. Let the old oil to seap out completely, check it for metal particles. Remove the drain plug, clean it and the surrounding region then reinstall the plug and tight it. Place the drain pan directly under the oil filter, tighten the filter wrench on the filter, loosen the filter and remove while inclining the car to avoid spillage of the oil. Wipe where the oil filter comes in contact with the engine so that you do not find the new gasket is stuck on the old one. Reciprocate the old and new filters, clean the gasket of the new filter with oil, and put in the normal way as instructed in the manual. Once all the tools an rags are out of the vehicle, lower the vehicle and pour in seven quarts of new oil through the filler cap and check the level using the dip stick. Switch on the engine to let the oil to go round then switch of the engine and check the level of the oil and in case it is low add the oil. It is also important to inspect for leaks and also the oil level after the oil change for the initial few trips. Take care not to dump the old oil, either in drains and the ground; instead, it should be transported in an appropriate container to a recycler.

    Q:
How do oil life indicator systems determine when it's time to change the oil and Oil Filter on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
These vehicles come equipped with an oil life indicating system, which comes with a light on the instrument panel, or a message that one needs to change the oil depending on how worn out the oil is based on different parameters of use; usually it is capable of allowing one to use it for more than the usual 3000-mile limit on oil use though it is advised that frequent oil changing is good for the engines. If one decides to stick with the oil life indicator, never allow the vehicle to go over 10,000 miles before doing an oil change. Oil changes are some of the most basic maintenance procedures that can be done on a vehicle because as the oil ages, it gives in to wear on the engine. Before every stage prepare all the tools and maybe have rags or newspapers to cover stains. Some of the areas, which are easier to access when the car is raised include the oil drain plug and the filter. Search for the oil drain plug and filter and, as such, ensure the victim is wary of warm exhaust parts. When the engine is cold, the oil is thick and does not flow as easily, so warm the engine to get the oil moving, find a level surface, and take of the oil cap. Place the vehicle on jackstands, put a drain pan below the drain plug and using gloves, remove the plug using the right tool. After the replacement of the old oil with the new one, check for the presence of metal inside the drain plug and clean it before finally tightening the drain plug securely. Place the drain pan directly beneath the oil filter; to get it unstopped, use a wrench but you can remove it by hand; be careful with hot exhausts. Scrape the mounting surface on the block to ensure that it does not smoke and to achieve the right seating of the new filter which should be checked against the old one. Wipe the new filter gasket with the engine oil and slip it into the engine without forcing it; do not over tighten the gasket. Take out the tools and the materials out from under the vehicle, lower it and pour new oil through the filler cap using a funnel and check the level. Switch on the engine and then lookout for traces of oil leakage and then correct the oil level that may be low. To get the Change Engine Oil light turn off, show "Oil Life Reset" at the right side of the cluster then, hold down the set/reset button for five seconds. During the first few drives after the oil change, some possible leaks and appropriate levels of the oil should be checked. Properly get rid of the old oil and make sure that it is properly recycled at the proper location and never should it be dumped on the ground or into the drain.
