    Q:
How do you disconnect and remove the ignition switch and key lock cylinder from the steering column on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the knee bolster trim panel, the knee bolster, and the upper and lower steering column covers, then lower the steering column to its lowest position. For 2007 and earlier models, remove the wiring harness from the harness retainer and the two electrical connectors from the bottom of the multi-function switch housing. Rotate the ignition key alarm connector down and pull it outwards to release the connector fastener. On 2004 and earlier models, remove the ignition switch screws, take the switch out of the steering column, and disconnect the wiring connector. For 2005 through 2007 models, disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch, carefully remove the two wires in the ignition switch clip, insert special tool J-42759 into the lock cylinder housing to release the ignition switch, and slide it out. On 2007 models, first remove the ignition lock cylinder, then disconnect the theft deterrent module electrical connector and remove the module from the end of the Ignition Lock Cylinder housing. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the key alarm connector is locked in place. For 2008 and later models, remove the locking pin and disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch, then remove the mounting fasteners, lift the rod out of the actuator arm, and take the ignition switch out of the steering column. When installing the switch, ensure it snaps into place. To remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder, turn the ignition key to the RUN position and use a suitable tool to depress the Ignition Lock Cylinder release button, which is located at the bottom for 2007 and earlier models and at the top for 2008 and later models. Remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder and to install it, insert it into the lock cylinder housing and push it in until it clicks into place. Verify that the ignition switch operates correctly in the OFF, ACC, RUN, and START positions. For the Ignition Lock Cylinder illumination ring, disconnect the electrical connector, disengage the lock tabs, and remove the illumination ring, with installation being the reverse of removal and ensuring the ring snaps into place.
