    Q:
How to remove and install the timing chain cover on Chevrolet Cruze? Posted by Customer
    A:
This is a procedure that demands several special tools and is a delicate one. It is wise to read the entire procedure before attempting the job for one is likely to miss some steps. Start by removing the cable from the negative terminal of the battery then, slide off the air filter housing. With the engine at TDC, the right front lug nuts should be loosened, and the front of the vehicle should be raised and supported securely on jack stands before the right front wheel is removed. Siphon off the engine oil and coolant, then take off the drive belt and its tensioner, after them the alternator, and then the air conditioning compressor, which is supported by a rib above. First, the compressor mounting bracket bolts and the bracket must be removed, then also the crankshaft pulley and the oil pan should be detached. Further, you have to unbolt the water pump, the camshaft position actuator solenoid valves as well as the two camshaft position sensors. If the model is 2015 and prior, upon the lower crankcase hole plug, use the special tool to lock the engine at TDC for one-pint cylinder. Of each camshaft: tighten with a wrench, loosen the sprocket bolt, and turn with hand the CMP sensor exciter wheel. Adjust the camshafts if necessary, to accommodate the special tool on the ends of the camshafts, before removing the upper timing chain guide. Place supporting blocks under the engine using an engine lift or support cradle, detach the right side engine hanger and the engine hanger bracket. Slowly and symmetrically undo the timing cover bolts, remove and ensure that one draws a sketch of the engine cover and individual bolts. Take off the timing chain to gain access to the timing cover gasket; examine and clean any adjoining surfaces of the timing cover and the block; be very careful with aluminum. If so, then the crankshaft front oil seal will have to be replaced. Place a small quantity of RTV sealant at the outside corners of the cylinder head where it would connect with the cylinder block; then fit a new gasket on the timing cover should be fitted within 10 minutes of RTV sealant application. Place the timing chain in position, then the timing cover, and the corresponding fasteners to the alignment with the oil pump rotor and the previous locations of the fasteners. Remove the end plate and check the torque of the cover bolts and the two M10 bolts to the prescribed tighten value. Fit the upper timing chain guide, and then snug up the camshaft sprockets. Replace the camshaft position actuator solenoid valves, water pump, crankshaft pulley and the rest of the parts in the reverse order of the procedure. Add the suggested kind of oil into the crankcase, replace the coolant, re-join the battery, and then start the engine to examine the presence of leakage and level of the fluid.
