    Q:
How to properly install a timing belt,Timing Cover and Timing Sprocket in 3.2L V6 engine on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, unplug the negative cable and unbolt being the intake air resonator and the intake plenum. However, the following are the removal procedures; First, the drivebelt and the drivebelt tensioner must be removed, then, the water pump pulley mounting bolts have to be removed as well as the pulley. Counter-loosen all the bolts that are holding the power steering pump on the bracket and then remove the pump from the bracket. As far as timing belt is concerned the coupling and the belt has to be changed Pull out all the mounting fasteners of Timing Cover and pull the cover away from the engine. When working on the timing belt and sprockets do not turn the crankshaft or camshafts individually with the belt out of the system to avoid straining the valves. Make sure that you have the special tools called for on the job before proceeding. Take off the timing cover belt, crankshaft pulley and turn the crankshaft so that Cylinder #1 reaches Top Dead Center on the compression stroke that gets the meshing timing marks of the camshaft gears and crankshaft sprocket in one straight line. Place bolts to lock the crankshaft from any movement, insert other bolts between the camshaft gears and release the tension on the timing belt tensioner. Roll the idler pulley and the timing belt out, and do not twist them frequently or sharply. Check the timing belt for signs of wear or contamination and replace it if it reached the 60k, or any other appropriate time. For installation include aligning all the marks on the camshaft sprockets and the crankshaft sprocket, looping the timing belt around the said crankshaft sprocket and the other necessary pulleys. After the lower idler pulley has been fitted all marked will have to be aligned, and the tension of the timing belt set. Rotate the crankshaft to get some resistance to see some problem and confirm all the marks matching and tighten the timing cover. Some changes may be made to match the camshaft sprockets to the special tools and if the sprockets get out of alignment, change the upper idler pulley eccentric. An additional step is to make sure that the alignment and tension are appropriate, please complete the installation.

How to Remove and Install the Timing Chain Cover in V6 engine on Chevrolet Camaro? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, loosen the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and then jack up the car and put it on the stands. Then pop out the suspension cross brace and the covers of the engine and also take off the intake manifold. Continue and take off the Drive belts and Tensioners and drain the coolant if it is possible. Next is to remove the starter and the alternator followed by the bracket of the alternator. Take off the valve covers, then dismantle the air filter and the intake duct in the engine bay, together with the upper and lower radiator hoses, the coolant recovery hose, the cooling fans, the drive belt and the coolant outlet pipe. Sustain it with the crankshaft balancer' removal, followed by the removal of the bolts that attach the power steering pump reservoir and allied brackets without having to crack any of the steering pump's hoses; set the reservoir and bracket assembly aside. Then you should unbolt the A/C compressor and also the other brackets connected to it without disconnecting the flow of A/C refrigerant and then swing the compressor and its brackets as one single unit out of the vicinity of the working area. Remove all the wiring connectors and each Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor, and, further, the wiring as well as the variable cam timing solenoids from the front of the engine. Loosen and unbolt the timing cover using the mounting bolts while the water pump is still attached, then dismantle the timing cover from the block with the aid of a screw driver if necessary but should be done very carefully as not to cause any damages on the aluminum cover. For assembly, a new first timing cover gasket should be bolted to the inside of the timing cover and a thin layer of RTV sealant applied to the joint surfaces of the cover. Slide the timing cover over the crankshaft and the two studs and in now install the bolts with some turn by hand of the cover. Put in two eight mm studs into the engine block for guiding the timing cover into the proper place after which the studs should be removed and the timing cover bolts tightened in turn to the set torque. The remaining part of the installation is done in the reverse sequence to the removal.

    Q:
How do you remove and install engine components, including the front cover and oil pump in six cylinder engine on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
To release the components, one has to drain the engine coolant, as well as to take off the drivebelt. Subsequently, the fan and fan shroud has to be removed, the water pump and the power steering pump as well. The crankshaft pulley and the oil pan must be also unbolted. Start unscrewing the front cover bolts where the 7mm bolt is, then tighten two bolts at the jackscrew locations of the front cover and one should be able to pull out the cover. Optional, the oil pump can be removed from the front cover if needed. The cover sealing area must be cleaned with solvent to remove all the old gasket material, and the condition of the cover must be assessed for nicks, and other cases of damage, while using gasket removal tools that do not employ power. For installation, engage the notch of the oil pump and those of the crankshaft spline and then engaging the cover loosely without using any sealant. Taking off the cover, spread 3/16 inch thick of RTV sealant on the sealing zone and the three bolt hole zones of the cover. Insert the front cover in its position and fit the main seal to the crankshaft oil pump core and crankshaft splines, fix the crankshaft pulley temporarily. of torque on all bolts finger tight before moving up to the torque set out in the instruction while the 7 mm centre bolt is tightened last. The remaining part of the installation is in the order of dismantling the parts. Last, but not the least put engine oil and coolant and finally start the engine and look for any signs of leakage.

    Q:
How do you remove and install front cover on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before the removal of any component, it is recommended that the engine oil be drained together with the coolant, and the drivebelt be pulled off. Then, remove the fan and the fan shroud, then the water pump and, finally, the power steering pump. Go ahead and pull the crankshaft pulley and also to clear the oil pan. Next to that, unbolt the front cover using 7 mm bolt that is located in the middle of the cover. Place two bolts on the jackscrew holes at the front cover, and screw then until the cover is pulled off evenly. If necessary, unbolten the oil pump from front cover. Solvent clean the whole area that needs to be sealed and make sure all traces of old gasket is removed; check the cover for nicks etc and do not use pneumatic tools to remove gasket. For installation, position the oil pump and crankshaft splines followed by fitting of the cover without the use of any sealant. Taking off the cover spread a 3/16-inch layer of the RTV sealant throughout the sealing segment and on the three bolt holes segment of the cover. Fabricate two alignment studs by taking the head off two bolts and then fit the studs through the front cover in the second hole up from the bottom on each side. Insert the front cover further forward until the oil pump and crankshaft splines mesh, and then temporarily fit the crankshaft pulley in position to centre the seal on it. Screw the remaining bolts for the front cover within 10 minutes of applying the sealant and tightening should be done to the torque recommended. Screw out the two alignment bolts, screw in and tighten the two cover bolts in their stead and then insert and tighten the middle cover bolt. As it is a removal process, reverse them to complete the installation; add fresh engine oil and coolant, start the engine, inspect for any signs of leakage.
