To take out the control arm, then unscrew the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the automobile and put it on jackstands, engage the parking brake and put blocks on the rear wheels. Take off the wheel and, depending upon whether both the control arms are to be removed or only one, disconnect the stabilizer bar. Next, undo the castellated nut and cotter pin from the balljoint stud, the balljoint can then be popped out from the steering knuckle using a large pry bar but one has to be careful not to over flex the inner CV joint. Two control arm pivot bolts are to be undone to release the control arm and the bushings may be worn or damaged and in some cases may require extraordinary tools for replacement. Indeed, in case this is needed, the suspension support can easily be demounted, by removing the mounting bolts. For installation pivot is to position the control arm in the suspension support and tighten the pivot bolts loosely. Place the balljoint stud over the steering knuckle, screw on the castellated nut and tighten until the hole of the cotter pin is aligned and then fit a new cotter pin. Fasten the stabilizer bar to control arm bolt, spacer, bushings and washer and tighten the nut accordingly. Last of all use a floor jack to lift the outer end of the control arm to its normal ride height then tighten the pivot bolts. Then fit the wheel and tighten the lug nuts and lower the vehicle.
