    Q:
How do you install a deluxe steering wheel on Oldsmobile Cutlass? Posted by Customer
    A:
Replacement of a deluxe steering wheel starts by removing the car battery negative terminal, the two screws on the underside rear side of the shroud of the steering wheel. Remove the shroud and horn contact lead assembly from the steering wheel, and for units with the year of manufacture between 1975 and 1980, also, remove the snap ring from the steering shaft. When fitting, be sure to scratch the steering wheel and column so that you replace them in the right position although you do not have to keep them off for long unless you are checking the suspension or something of that nature, then you have to remove the steering wheel lock nut from the shaft. Remove the steering wheel using a steering wheel puller, be very careful not to hit the puller or the column; this also calls for protection of the threaded shaft with the lock nut. Upon reassembly, the turn signal lever should be switched to neutral, the wheels aligned down to the marks, and the lock nut should not be overly done tight. After fitting the snap ring and placing the shroud over the wheel with the horn contact lead passing through, fit the shroud screws, reconnect the negative battery cable and check the horn operation on models from 1975 to 1980. In a sport steering wheel, the procedure begins almost identically with the removal of the negative battery terminal and then gently popping off the horn button cover. Again for models from 1975 to 1980, you will have to unscrew the snap ring from the shaft before unscrewing the steering wheel lock nut, three screws holding the upper horn insulator, and the insulator together with other components. Talk the procedure of how to remove the steering wheel using a puller; one must be careful not to harm the threads on the spindle of the steering wheel. For installing the turn signal lever, the turn signal lever is shifted to the neutral position, the wheels positioned with the help of marks and then it is locked with the lock nut which is to be tightened as the right degree of tightly. In the models ranging from 1975 to 1980, fit the snap ring and then fit the horn parts together with screws and tighten; fit the negative battery terminal and check the horn operation.
