This switch ensures the vehicle only starts when the clutch pedal is fully depressed. Mounted on the clutch pedal bracket, it's activated by a plastic shaft. To remove, disconnect the electrical coupler and the switch actuating shaft. For installation, attach the switch to the bracket, align the actuating shaft with the pedal arm hole, and connect the electrical coupler. No adjustments are needed as the switch is self-aligning.

Firmly apply both the parking brake and the regular brakes. If the engine starts, be ready to turn off the ignition promptly. Take these precautions because the vehicle could move without warning and possibly cause personal injury or property damage. On automatic transaxle vehicles, try to start the engine in each gear. The engine should start only in Park or Neutral due to the Neutral Safety Switch. On manual transaxle vehicles, place the shift lever in Neutral, push the clutch halfway and try to start. The engine should start only when the clutch is fully depressed because of the Neutral Safety Switch.

To install, position the gear shift lever in NEUTRAL, install the switch into the column by inserting the switch carrier tang into the shift tube slot and tighten the retaining screws, move the gear shift lever out of NEUTRAL to the LOW extreme position to shear the switch pin, check operation of switch to verify that the engine will only start in PARK or NEUTRAL, and adjust the switch by positioning the gear shift lever in NEUTRAL, loosening the 2 retaining screws, rotating the switch slightly on the column until the NEUTRAL hole in the back of the switch freely admits a No. 41 (3/32 in.) drill bit to the depth of 3/s in. (9mm), and then tightening the retaining nut.

The engine should crank only with the clutch pedal fully depressed.
