    Q:
How can I adjust the brakes and brake pedal on Buick Century and Regal? Posted by Customer
    A:
All Century/Regal drum brakes are of the self-adjusting type and all that is normally required to adjust the brakes is to stop the car moderately hard several times whiles backing up. If more adjustment is required, the car should be raised and supported safely on jackstands, the rubber plug from the adjusting slot on the backing plate should be removed, a brake adjusting spoon should be inserted into the slot and engaged to the lowest possible tooth on the star wheel, a small screwdriver or piece of firm wire should be inserted into the adjusting slot and the automatic adjuster lever should be pushed out and free of the starwheel on the adjusting screw, the topmost tooth possible on the star wheel should be engaged with a brake adjusting spoon and the adjusting screw star wheel should be backed off until the wheel spins freely with a minimum of drag. The same number of turns should be backed off the adjusting lever on the other side to prevent side-to-side brake pull. The pedal travel should be 2¼ in. (6cm) for 1975-84 vehicles, 3¾ in. (9cm) for 1985-87 vehicles or 31/J in. (8cm) for hydro-boost equipped vehicles. The push rod-to-pedal clevis pin should be removed from under the dash, the push rod adjuster lock nut should be loosened and the push rod should be adjusted to the correct travel before reversing the removal procedure. Disc brakes are inherently self-adjusting and no adjustment is possible.

    Q:
How to remove and install a Brake Pedal? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the brake pedal, unfasten the push rod from the brake pedal, remove the hinge bolt and bushing from the unit, then remove the pedal. To install, attach the brake pedal and hinge bolt, install the push rod, and attach the lower steering column panel if removed.
