    Q:
How do you remove and install the oil pan in 4.6L V8 engine on Cadillac DeVille? Posted by Customer
    A:
There are few steps that should be followed in order to replace the oil pan they include; It is recommended that the engine oil be drained off, and the oil filter be also removed. For the 1999 model the engine/transaxle has to be detached from the vehicle while for the 2000 model and later, the crossover pipe joining the front right exhaust manifold needs to be disconnected. Turn to the oil pan mounting bolts by setting the engine on a heavy-duty engine stand for the 1999 models or the car on jackstands for the 2000 and subsequent models. For the latter models, lift the vehicle and support it on jackstands; remove the oil level sensor. Take out the bolts that hold the oil pan to the engine block; use a pry-bar if needed to loosen the oil pan if it is stuck to the block so that you don't damage the mating surfaces. Subsequently, take off the oil pump strainer in the automobile engine. For installation scrape off all old sealant from both the block and the oil pan, and then degrease the area with the use of lacquer thinner or acetone. The threaded bolt holes must be free of any debris and the oil pan flange should not be bent; if it is, then it must be beaten flat. Check the oil pump pick-up/strainer assembly for damages and if it is removed, this is cleaned, and then installed with a new gasket, and some of the fasteners are tightened to the recommended torque. Change the oil pan gasket provided the groove as well as the surface of the oil pan spacious and oil before you/put the oil pan into position and tighten the bolts, using two or three sequences. Last but not the least, add new oil and oil filter and start the engine and look for leaks and check the oil pressure gauge.
