    Q:
How to replace the turn signal switch assembly and Ignition Lock Cylinder on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
The above procedure must be done using a special lock plate spring compressor, and in case of the presence of a tilt wheel it should be straightened. Start by removing the cable on the negative terminal of the battery and if the car has an airbag, then switch the airbag off. Models with anti-theft audio system require extra precautions, as the anti theft feature must be switched off prior to the battery disconnect. Removed next, the steering wheel together with the column trim plate and the lock plate cover in case it exists. For airbag-equipped models, the snap-ring and coil assembly are required to be dismantled so that the coil may rest by the wiring harness while the wave washer is taken out. One has to use a special tool and squish the lock plate to unlock and take off the retaining ring of the lock plate. On the 1995 and earlier models, the turn signal canceling cam and spring as well as the hazard warning knob and the turn signal lever arm screw have to be taken out, together with three switch mounting screws. Pull out steering column turn signal connector and if the switch is to be replaced pull out connectors from wiring harness assembly. Remove the turn signal switch assembly from the steering column, and if used alone on replacement, continue as follows. Using the needle nose pliers carefully pull the buzzer switch out of the pc board, do not lose the little retainer clip. Take out the Ignition Lock Cylinder retaining screw, rotate the key to the ON-position and pull it out of the steering column. The removal process is basically the opposite of the installation process where attention to properly connect the new switch wiring harness and to make certain that the airbag coil is well positioned. On 1996 and later models, it is necessary to remove the upper and lower steering column cover, lower the steering column if required, separate the cable tie for the switch wiring harness and plug the electrical connector. Depending on the model, there may be either three or six screws at the back of the combination switch; unscrew these to release the switch and withdraw it from the steering column, disconnecting it and the wiring harness pigtail at the same time; during the process of installation, use new cable ties to fix the new wiring harness. For the Ignition Lock Cylinder, insert the ignition key into the Start position plunge a 1/16" Allen wrench through the hole above the lock cylinder, and then, after turning the key back into the Run position; pull out the lock cylinder. Remove the upper and lower covers for the ignition switch, pull the alarm switch retaining clip with a screwdriver, then unplug the switch and the wiring harness at the firewall, and use cable ties to fasten the new harness.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall Dimmer Switch,Headlight Switch,Ignition Switch,Turn Signal Switch and Wiper Switch on Chevrolet C1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
In 1988 through 1994 models, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable, and for models with a Delco Loc II anti-theft audio system, ensure the lockout feature is off. Remove the instrument cluster trim panel retaining screws, disconnect electrical connectors behind the light switch, and remove the panel. Take out the light switch retaining screws and lift the switch from the trim panel. To reinstall, ensure the grounding ring is in place. For the headlight dimmer switch, remove the steering column support bracket bolts and nuts, lower the steering column, disconnect the dimmer switch electrical connector, and remove the retaining bolts. In the case of the park/neutral switch/back-up light switch for automatic transmission. For the windshield wiper/washer switch, remove the steering wheel, compress the locking plate, remove the clip retaining it to the steering column, and proceed with the disassembly steps. Disconnect the handle from the windshield wiper switch and drive the pin through the switch housing to remove it. Reinstallation is the reverse of removal. For the ignition switch, disconnect the negative battery cable, place the ignition switch in the Lock position, and lower the steering column. Remove the ignition switch retaining screws, lift the switch out, and reconnect the actuating rod before reinstalling it. To remove the Turn Signal Switch and key lock cylinder. In 1995 and later models, start by removing the steering wheel and the steering column cover. Remove the Torx-head bolt, unplug the electrical connector, and lift off the Turn Signal Switch. Installation is the reverse of removal. If needed, center the airbag coil by removing it, turning it over, depressing the spring lock, rotating the hub as instructed, and releasing the spring lock. Finally, install the wave washer and the airbag coil, ensuring the lower wiring harness is taut to prevent damage when turning the steering wheel.

    Q:
How Do You Remove and Install Ignition Lock Cylinder on Pontiac Firebird? Posted by Customer
    A:
Operations for removal and installation of the components are divided in a sequential way starting from those parts which are located close to the upper part of the steering column. Start with the removal of the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, unless for the models with Delco Loe II audio systems the anti-theft system should be turned off. Align the front wheels towards the right direction, switch of the ignition off and take out the key. Third, pull the steering wheel off. For models from 1990 and later, set the airbag system off, then unbolt the airbag coil retaining snap-ring and the coil assembly should hang by the wiring harness. Depending on airbag coil reinstallation, center it with help of spring lock depressed while retaining the hub as it is told, and then release the spring lock. Release the horn contact bushing and spring, demold the plastic cover of the steering column, and detached the shaft lock if it is necessary to use a special U-shaped tool. Remove the canceling cam assembly and the upper bearing preload spring and, if no other part is going to be replaced, proceedings for assembly should be undertaken in reverse order while making sure that the turn signal switch is in the neutral position. For the turn signal switch it is necessary to remove the lever attaching screw, then unscrew the hazard warning knob and remove the three mounting screws. Remove the screw holding the turn signal switch and pull the switch with the attached wiring harness from the top of the steering column and disconnect the turn signal switch wiring connector. If no other components are to be remove then follow the instructions to install it and be sure that the wiring harness is covered. For ignition lock cylinder, put it in RUN, take out ignition key warning switch and cautiously unscrew the lock retaining screw with the magnetised screw driver. Slide the lock cylinder away and insert it into the right position for the keyway and lock it in place by pushing it in and tightening retaining screw. The ignition key warning switch can be freely integrated and isolated from the ignition lock. Should the ignition lock cylinder remain functioning, place the key into the Run position, and using stiff wire pull out the switch, make sure that the buzzer switch actuating button is pressed down before fitting in the new warning switch; Other remaining components can then be reassembled.
