How to replace brake pads on Chevrolet Astro and GMC Safari? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the brake pads on a vehicle, start by removing the covers from the brake fluid reservoir. Then, loosen the wheel lug nuts and raise the front or rear of the vehicle, supporting it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheels and work on one brake assembly at a time, using the assembled brake for reference if needed. Inspect the rotor carefully and remove it if machining is necessary, along with the pads from the calipers. Clean the brake with brake system cleaner and push the piston(s) back into its/their bore(s) using a C-clamp or flat bar. Be cautious of the fluid in the master cylinder rising and siphon off some if necessary. For installation, ensure to stay in order when replacing the disc brake pads on 2003 and later models. Tighten the caliper mounting bolts and wheel lug nuts to the proper torque specifications. Finally, depress the brake pedal a few times to bring the pads into contact with the disc and check the brake fluid level, adding more if needed.
