    Q:
How to replace the expansion orifice tube in a Chevrolet C1500 and K1500's air conditioning system? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the A/C orifice tube in your vehicle's air conditioning system, it is recommended to have an air conditioning technician discharge and recover the refrigerant. Once the refrigerant has been discharged, open the hood and locate the A/C orifice tube fitting. Using two wrenches, hold the stationary fitting and loosen the other fitting. Inside the pipe leading to the evaporator, you will find the orifice tube with a fixed-diameter orifice and mesh filters at each end. Use needle-nose pliers to carefully remove the A/C orifice tube, applying heat if necessary. Before reinstalling, ensure that the screens are not plugged or damaged, the plastic housing is intact, and the brass orifice is unrestricted. When installing the new A/C orifice tube, insert it with the shorter end first towards the evaporator, and use a new O-ring lubricated with the proper refrigerant oil. Finally, reconnect the refrigerant line securely and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak-tested by a professional technician.

    Q:
How to remove and install an expansion (orifice) tube in an air conditioning system for Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the A/C orifice tube from an air conditioning system, the system must first be discharged. The tube is located in the liquid (high-pressure) line near the accumulator and can be removed by holding the stationary fitting with one wrench and loosening the other fitting with another wrench. The tube has a fixed-diameter orifice and a mesh filter at each end, and can be removed with needle-nose pliers. If it is stuck or breaks off, a special tool may be required. The orifice tube meters the refrigerant, changing it from a high-pressure liquid to a low-pressure gas, and can be reused if the screens aren't plugged, torn, or the plastic housing is intact and the brass orifice is unrestricted. To install the A/C orifice tube, insert it with the shorter end pointing toward the evaporator, reconnect the refrigerant line, and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak-tested.
