What steps should be followed for the engine for the 2012 GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the wiring from the alternator and move the wiring harnesses out of the way. If replacing the alternator, take the old one when purchasing a replacement unit. Ensure the new/rebuilt unit looks identical to the old alternator, with the same number, size, and location of terminals. Check the identification numbers stamped into the housing to ensure they match. If the new/rebuilt alternator does not have a pulley installed, switch the pulley from the old unit to the new/rebuilt one. Some shops may perform this service free of charge.

How is the process different for the 2012 GMC Sierra? Posted by Customer
    A:
For a V8 model, instead of detaching the clip and bolt for the air conditioning compressor and condenser hose bracket, you simply peel back the weather boot from the B+ terminal and disconnect the battery cable from the alternator. Then, remove the electrical connector and two alternator mounting bolts before removing the alternator.
