Disconnecting the CMP sensor requires unplugging the cable from the negative battery terminal. Once this is done, remove engine cover. Remove distributor cap and rotor for 2014 and earlier 4.3L V6 and 5.0L, 5.7L, and 7.4L V8 engines by disconnecting spark plug wires and ignition coil wire from the distributor cap. The CMP sensor electrical connector should be disconnected; then the crankshaft must be turned so that the square slot in the reluctor aligns with the CMP sensor. Get rid of the mounting screws on the sensor to detach it (CMP Sensor). Reluctor should align with square slot during installation of CMP sensor too (CMP Sensor). Disconnect electrical connector from CMP sensor, remove mounting bolt to take out sensor for 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L V8 engines (CMP Sensor). Remove cooling fan upper shroud for 2018 and later 4.3L VG engine and on jacks for vehicle's lifting remove harness bracket bolts as well as disconnect lower electric connection at bottom of timing chain cover (CMP Sensor). The harness/bracket are moved until upper electrical connector can be disconnected from the sensor (CMP Sensor). Finally, install sensor tightens down mount bolts securely (CMP Sensor).
