    Q:
How to check fuel pump operation and fuel pressure? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, do a preliminary check to ensure no fuel line leakages and that the tank has enough fuel supply. Ask your partner to turn the ignition switch ON as you listen for sound from the fuel pump which indicates its working properly; if you don't hear anything, look at the fuel pump fuse and relay then verify control circuit operation from PCM. In case there is still no pump action, unplug electrical connector of the fuel pump module and test power supply and ground terminal points. If there is absence of either power or ground you have to repair wiring. Replace the fuel pump if there is power but it does not run. First drop off all fuel pressure using a gauge for pressure check-up. Attach your gauge to the test port and turn on/off ignition key repeatedly until best reading is taken into account. For 2004 and 2005 products with low pressure reading; close down the valve in about two minutes after opening it up; otherwise, open up return line as well as checking if there are any restrictions on it; finally replace fuel pressure regulator incase none of these measures prove effective. Fuel pressure should be within 3-10 psi below initial reading while engine runs; alternatively check vacuum condition at FPR nipple once vacuum is present but FPR does not reduce any more PSI just throw it away. As for cars in 2006 year model and even beyond this one conduct such tests only during engine running period. Finally watch for another five minutes if fall of this parameter will not exceed five pounds per square inch before diagnosing leakage in gas pipe connecting injectors etc., also you can suspect malfunctioning PRV (pressure relief valve) or leaking FPDM(Check valves only are seen over here when disconnecting vac line).

    Q:
What should the fuel pressure be while the engine is running, and what can you do if it's not within the specified range for the 2010 Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
While the engine is running, the fuel pressure should be 3 to 10 psi below the initial reading. If it's not within this range, you should: Check for vacuum at the fuel pressure regulator. If vacuum is present but the regulator doesn't reduce pressure, replace it.
