    Q:
How do you replace the key lock cylinder with a fixed steering column on Pontiac Grand Prix? Posted by Customer
    A:
For 1996 and earlier models (and 1997 Olds) with a fixed steering column, start by detaching the cable from the negative battery terminal, ensuring the Theft lock audio system's lockout feature is off before disconnecting the battery. Next, remove the steering wheel, followed by the turn signal switch assembly. Place the Ignition Lock Cylinder in the Run position, then remove the turn signal switch housing screws and take out the turn signal switch housing along with the steering shaft assembly as a complete unit. Use a screwdriver to lift the switch tab, gently pull on the buzzer switch wires, and remove the buzzer switch. Change the Ignition Lock Cylinder to the Accessory position, remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder retaining screw, and then take out the Ignition Lock Cylinder. Installation follows the reverse order of removal. For tilt steering columns, visit a dealer service department or repair shop, as a special tool is required to remove the pivot pins in the steering column housing, making Ignition Lock Cylinder replacement unfeasible for home mechanics. For 1997 and later models (except Olds), begin by detaching the cable from the negative battery terminal, again ensuring the Theft lock audio system's lockout feature is off. Remove the steering wheel and the steering column covers, then unplug the turn signal switch connectors from the bulkhead connector and disconnect the key alarm connector if present. Remove the ignition switch housing screws and detach the ignition switch/alarm module from the steering column. To remove the Ignition Lock Cylinder, turn the key to the RUN position, insert a 1/16 Allen wrench into the hole at the top of the housing to depress the lock retaining pin, and then take out the Ignition Lock Cylinder from the steering column. Installation is the reverse of removal.

    Q:
What are the steps to remove the steering column covers for the 2005 Chevrolet Express? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the steering wheel and the two screws from the lower steering column cover, then take off the lower cover. After that, remove the screws retaining the upper half of the steering column cover. The upper cover cannot be fully removed without taking out the key lock cylinder, but it can be lifted enough to create space for work.
