    Q:
How to remove and install a transfer case? Posted by Customer
    A:
To start removing the transfer case, one should first disconnect its negative cable from the battery and then raise the vehicle such that it is supported securely on jackstands. A skid plate is taken off where it exists, and the transfer case lubricant is drained. Removing the front driveshaft is followed by taking out the left strut rod while releasing one to remove the rear driveshaft. All electrical connectors from the transfer case are unplugged, and a shift linkage is detached. If it becomes necessary to have sufficient clearance in this part of removing a transfer case, exhaust system has to be removed. The transmission would be supported by a jack or a jackstand so that it should remain supported while the transfer case was out of the vehicle at all times. Supporting this transfer case with a jack particularly a special one for this purpose is preferable. To ensure stability of these cases on that platform, safety chains could be used as well. Bolts which connect transmission to this box get removed without losing lock washers placed thereon. Finally, all wires and hoses must have been disconnected from this casing after which both of them together with their jacks can be moved towards rear end of vehicle until transmission is free from transferred cases (transfer case). During this action keep your transfer case level (transfer case). Once input shafts are clear, lower and remove transfer cases underneath vehicles (transfer cases) while installing it back will mean carrying out similar activities but tightening torque specified between bolts joining casings together with transmissions (installation).

    Q:
How can the case halves be separated during the removal process for the 1988 Chevrolet K1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The case halves can be separated by inserting screwdrivers into the case ends' slots and prying them apart, taking care not to damage the oil pump in the rear case half.
