On regular basis, inspect all parts of each battery cable for faults or damage signs such as worn-out insulation, cracks or burnt points and corrosion that could lead to starting difficulties and a reduced engine performance. Assess the cable-end joints on both ends of the wires for corroded joints, crack lines as well as loose wire strands. White, spongy deposits beneath the covering at these junctions are indicative of corrosion hence change should be done. Damages may also be evident through distortions, missing bolts/nuts for mounting and any forms of corroded surface on contacts. If it is only positive cable which needs to be replaced then it should be removed after disconnecting with negative one from battery. Similarly detach and take away the old cable making sure that its length and diameter is similar to that of another one intended for replacement. After removing rust and corrosion from either starter or ground connection threads with a metallic brush apply some petroleum jelly lightly onto them to make installation easy in future while protecting against further corrosion.Attach this wire securely using the nut provided by tightening it until you cannot see any movement in it.Remove any rust from your new starter/groung attachtments with a wire brush.Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly to your starters before fitting them back into position.Use a wrench to tightn up this steel threaded rod.Terminate this thing together with grounding connection nut firmly.To minimize stretching put the new one without applying force.Disengage the negative charger next so as not to be shocked.Connect terminals first by fitting in positive cables before negative ones.Have fasteners tightened amidst smearing them using petroleum jelly sparingly over their surfaces.
