- A:Inspect the windshield wiper and blade assembly regularly for damage, loose parts, and worn blades. Clean blades with mild detergent to remove road film. Check and tighten bolts, nuts, and fasteners during blade checks. Replace cracked or worn blades. Some models have press-type release levers to remove old blades. Install new blades by pressing them onto the wiper arm pin until they snap into place. The blade element is secured by a spring-loaded retainer and metal tabs.
