A serpentine drivebelt is sited in front of the engine and is very vital to the functioning of the engine as well as its parts by turning the alternator, power steering pump, water pump and the air conditioning compressor. An internal spring operate tensioner is provided for maintaining the belt tension which is not user adjustable; the tensioner assembly is to be replaced when the mark on the tensioner arm is in line with the indexing mark on the tensioner body. To remove the belt, loosen the tensioner counter clockwise and use the drivebelt tool if required, the belt can then be removed from the tensioner and auxiliary components before releasing the tensioner slowly. Once verify that new belt has the right length direct it over the idler andCtr pulleys while turning the tensioner to enable the new belt to be fixed before the release of it. For tensioner replacement, first remove the belt and then the tensioner mounting bolt, installation is done in a reverse way but make sure that the indexing dowel fits into the correct hole on the mounting surface.
