    Q:
How do you safely remove and install a rear shock absorber on GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
    A:
Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands placed underneath the frame rails, while blocking the front wheels to prevent rolling. Although it isn't necessary to remove the rear wheels, doing so will enhance access to the shock absorbers. Support the rear axle with a floor jack positioned under the axle tube closest to the shock absorber being removed. Proceed to remove the upper and lower mounting fasteners of the shock absorber, including the upper mounting bolts (one may not be visible) and the lower mounting bolt/nut. After removing the shock absorber, installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring that all fasteners are tightened to the specified torque values.

    A:
Visually inspect components for damage, distortion, and leaks, particularly at the control arm mounting points. Clean the lower end of the steering knuckle and have an assistant move the tire in-and-out to check for movement at the ball joint; any movement indicates the need for replacement.
