The spark plug wires should be inspected at the recommended times and every time when the spark plugs have been replaced in the engine connecting them one at a time in order to avoid confusion which affects the general performance of the engine. To remove a plug wire from a spark plug, take the rubber cover, turn it with the hand slightly and pull the wire end, do not pull on the wire. Regarding the corrosion, examine the boot area for a white crusty powder; if positive, the boot should firmly fit the plug; failing this, use the pliers to carefully fold the metal mouth of the connector inside the boot. This must should be done along the full length of the wire otherwise, to remove first the grime and grease on its surface, and secondly, to inspect it for such defects as holes, burned sections, cracks, etc., it can be bent obliquely, but it must not be bent too strongly as this will rupture the conductor within. Remove the wire from the distributor cap, in some cases you'll need to slide the retain around the top of the cap, examine the wire for signs of corrosion and to make sure that it fits well before reconnecting. Perform this for other spark plug wires, tightening the clamps at both ends of the wire to the distributor and the spark plug. If new spark plug wires are required, get individual wires suited to the engine type and preferably these come pre-with pre-attached rubber covers to facilitate the wiring; make sure to replace the wires one at a time starting from the front of the engine while noting the position of each wire before removal.
