To begin the removal process, turn the ignition key to Off and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, waiting at least two minutes before proceeding. Remove the steering column covers. Use two small screwdrivers to release the airbag module clips by depressing them through the holes on each side of the steering wheel, which may require turning the wheel 180 degrees for access. Gently pull the airbag module away from the wheel, pry up the connector locks, and disconnect the electrical connectors. If the steering wheel was turned, ensure it is straight ahead before removing the key. Carefully set the airbag in a safe, isolated area. Remove the steering wheel Torx center bolt and mark the position of the wheel relative to the steering shaft, then rock the wheel lightly to detach it. Feed the wires and connectors through the steering wheel as you remove it, and tape the clockspring to prevent rotation, as rotating the steering shaft while the wheel and airbag are removed could damage the clockspring. If the clockspring needs to be removed, unplug its connectors and take out the mounting screws after removing the steering column covers. For installation, if the clockspring was removed, install and center it, ensuring the inner rotor is positioned correctly by rotating it counterclockwise until resistance is felt, then turning it clockwise approximately 2 to 2-1/4 turns with the electrical connector at the 12 o'clock position. To install the wheel, feed the wiring and airbag connectors through it, place the steering wheel on the steering shaft aligning the match marks, and tighten the steering wheel bolt to the specified torque. The remaining installation steps follow the reverse order of removal.
